Jaipur, 27th Sep 2018: Healthwise the heart-age of a 52-year-old should be 52 years or less but according to a study on heart it has been found to 85, 33 years more, hence putting the life at risk of early death. Lack or excess of sleep was linked more strongly than smoking, hypertension or diabetes. This was stated by cardiologist Dr Nikhil Choudhary, Consultant Cardiologist at Narayana Multi speciality hospital, Jaipur, in a press conference on the occasion of commemoration of World Heart day 2018. World heart Day is observed worldwide on 29th September, is an initiative by World heart federation to create public awareness on heart health. For the study, led by Dr Nikhil Choudhary, 576subjects were enrolled. The study group belonged in 35 to 70 years age group, both men and women. The information on parameters required to calculate heart age was taken through personal interview and subjects were also asked to provide daily routine information through answering simple multiple-choice questions. Dr Nikhil told “72% of the study population was seen to be suffering from excess heart age. In this group prevalence of high-risk factor, mainly insufficientexercise, inadequate sleep, diabetes, smoking & hypertension were studied and were found to be at 61%, 74%, 13%, 22% & 61% respectively.” He said “Inadequate sleep, less than 7 hours or more than 9 hours per day, was found to be the biggest risk factor prevailing in the study. Excess sleep in 47% and less sleep in 53%of people with inadequate sleep problem was noticed.” “Sleep duration that is either too short or too long is associated with greater risk, with most studies suggesting that the lowest risk occurs with 7 hours per day of sleep duration” he says Dr Nikhil tells “The study found 50% of people having their hearts 10 to 33 years older to them. The prevalence of people with hearts as per age or younger was found to be just 25%.” He says “About 80% of heart attacks & strokes in people under 75 could be prevented if heart health was improved. Heart Age is a scientific way to understand the risk of heart attack & stroke. A younger heart age means a lower risk of heart disease.” He said “The Prevalence of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) “HEART ATTACK” is rapidly increasing in India. The death rate due to heart attack will be 295 per 1,00,000 population in the year 2025. Cardiovascular disease will account for 33.5% of total deaths by the year 2025, would replace infectious diseases, as the number one killer in the Indian Population. Keeping all these facts in mind it is very important to educate people about heart diseases and what they can do in their daily life to take corrective action so that they can lead a healthy life free from any heart diseases.”
