NEW DELHI- Spectra Genie conducted the second edition of SGMUN – a Model United Nations Conference – on Saturday at the Indian Institute of Mass Communications (IIMC) in New Delhi. Model United Nations conferences offer a vibrant platform for young and smart minds of the country. SGMUN’17 was a blend of all the best possible amenities and purposes for the development of students. In the conference students got an opportunity to come forward as delegates of a particular country and debate on internationally deliberated topics. With a participation of over 400 students across the country, the two conferences were concluded with a valedictory function on Sunday evening. SGMUN’17 with the theme of “Redefining diplomacy” aimed to set new dimensions for the young and vibrant minds around the globe. A simulation of the United Nations, Model United Nations (MUN) Conferences aim at educating and skill the participants in international relations and also focus on inculcating in participants the art of diplomacy, ability to mushroom new ideas, and critically enhances the knowledge base of students about issues concerning the global community, facilitating amicable solutions from their end, pertaining to the agendas at hand. Addressing the students Mr. KG Suresh, Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, said, “Today, India is an important stakeholder in global diplomacy and many Indians are making us proud by their contributions on various international platforms. Initiatives like this conference are bedrock for the emerging talents, preparing them to efficiently tackle the global challenges in the coming times. Seeing such talented students at this conference, I am sure that future of our country is bright.” Mrs. Lakshmi Hariharan, Founder Spectra Genie thanked all the eminent speakers for encouraging the participants and said, “There is no dearth of talent in our country. We owe it to our country to guide these budding talents in the right direction to ensure our bright future. I wish all the participants very best.” Dr. Abhishek Tandon, Assistant Professor, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi, Mr. Sai Ramani, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University, Ms. Neemo Dhar, Dean Faculty Media Studies and Humanities, Mr. Manas Dowlani, Head, International Youth Council, Ms. Sanyukta Mishra, Director American Foundation, Dr. Madhuri Parti, Director Education Laxmipat Singhania Group of Schools, Mr. E.S. Ranganathan, MD IGL, also shared their words of wisdom and encouraged the participants. During the conference students were divided into six committees namely, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). With agendas that ranged from ‘Use of Nuclear Technology’ to ‘Reforms in the electoral process of India’, the conference was a successful learning spectacle for all students who took part in it with vigour and enthusiasm.
